What community sentiment measures

The community view shows what other investors are saying about a security — not what is true about it. That distinction is easy to lose the moment you see a counter reading "80% bullish".

It still carries real information: it shows what is being discussed at all. A stock nobody mentions and one everybody mentions are in completely different positioning states, even when their fundamentals look alike.

How to use it without being hurt by it

Community sentiment is most useful as a contrarian signal at the extremes. Uniform enthusiasm and uniform despair both tend to cluster around turning points, because at both points almost everyone has already acted on their view.

The practical rule: do not let the discussion replace the work. If you cannot state for yourself why you hold something, other people being excited about it is not an answer.
