A headline on its own does not say whether something is good or bad for a stock. "Company raises capital" can be a sign of strength or of distress depending on context. Sentiment analysis attempts to label that direction so a news stream can be scanned quickly.

The label is a triage tool, not a verdict. It helps decide what to read first — not what to conclude once you have read it.

How to read a news stream without being carried by it

Ask first whether the item changes something in the business or only the mood around it. A significant contract changes future cash flow; an opinion piece about the company does not.

Ask second whether the market has already priced it. News everyone expected is in the price already and moves it far less than a surprise — even when its substance matters more.

And watch density. Five headlines about one event are not five events, but they do manufacture a sense of momentum that the data may not support.
